THE GETTING-DRESSED GUIDE · 02

Fewer pieces.
More possibilities.

A capsule wardrobe starts with a purpose, not a shopping list. Choose clothes that work together for the days ahead, and let a smaller edit do more.

A WARDROBE, WELL CONSIDERED

Build the capsule around your life.

Set the occasion before the number

A working week and a long weekend need different capsules. Write down the days, the activities and the conditions you expect. Count practical needs first: a comfortable walking outfit, a layer for cooler evenings, or something suited to dinner.

Find a shared palette

Pick two or three colours already repeated in your wardrobe. Neutrals can make mixing easier, but a capsule does not have to be beige. A recurring print or colour can work just as well when it connects your tops, bottoms and layers.

Test complete outfits

Lay out combinations before deciding that every piece belongs. Two tops and two bottoms can suggest four pairings on paper, but comfort, proportion and the occasion still matter. Keep the combinations you would actually choose to wear.

Turn the edit into a packing list

For a trip, set a piece limit in AFTERLOOK, review the suggested days and confirm the capsule you want to keep. Check off the pieces while packing. If the wardrobe cannot cover a day, the preview shows the gap instead of inventing clothes you do not own.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you step inside.

How many pieces should a capsule wardrobe have?

There is no single required number. Start with the length of your trip or planning period, laundry access, climate and activities. A useful capsule covers those needs with pieces you enjoy repeating.

Do I need to buy new clothes for a capsule?

No. Start with what you already own, test combinations and note any specific gap. AFTERLOOK helps you compose from your active wardrobe rather than requiring a new set of clothes.

Is a travel capsule the same as a packing checklist?

They work together. The capsule is the set of pieces and outfits you plan to wear. The checklist helps you track which of those pieces you have put in your bag.
